How to transfer a domain

Domain transfer allows you to move your domain registration from one registrar to another while maintaining ownership and settings.

Before you start

Ensure your domain meets these requirements:

  • Domain age: Must be at least 60 days old
  • Unlock status: Domain must be unlocked
  • Valid contacts: Registrant email must be accessible
  • No recent transfers: No transfers in the last 60 days
  • Current registration: Domain must not be expired

Step 1: Prepare at current registrar

Unlock your domain

  1. Log in to your current registrar's control panel
  2. Find the domain management section
  3. Locate the Domain Lock or Transfer Lock setting
  4. Set it to Unlocked or Disabled

Get authorization code

  1. In the same domain management section
  2. Look for Authorization Code, EPP Code, or Transfer Code
  3. Click to reveal or email the code to your registered email
  4. Save this code securely - you'll need it for the transfer

Verify contact information

  1. Check that your domain's registrant email is current and accessible
  2. Update if necessary and save changes
  3. Ensure WHOIS information is accurate

Step 2: Initiate transfer at Amicatek

  2. Review transfer pricing (usually includes 1 year extension)
  3. Proceed to checkout and complete payment

Step 3: Confirm the transfer

Check your email

  1. Check the registrant email for transfer confirmation
  2. Open the email from your current registrar
  3. Click the confirmation link or follow approval instructions
  4. Respond within the specified timeframe (usually 5 days)

Monitor transfer status

  • Transfers typically complete within 5-7 days
  • You'll receive email updates on progress
  • Contact support if no progress after 7 days

What happens during transfer

  • Domain registration: Moves to Amicatek
  • Expiration date: Extended by 1 year
  • DNS settings: Usually preserved (verify after transfer)
  • Website/email: Should continue working normally

After transfer completion

Verify settings

  1. Log in to your Amicatek client area
  2. Navigate to domain management
  3. Verify DNS settings are correct
  4. Test website and email functionality

Update configurations

  • Nameservers: Confirm they're pointing correctly
  • Contact information: Update if needed
  • Auto-renewal: Configure renewal preferences
  • Privacy protection: Enable if desired

Common transfer issues

Transfer denied

  • Domain locked: Unlock at current registrar
  • Wrong auth code: Get a new authorization code
  • Recent changes: Wait 60 days after recent registration/transfer
  • Invalid contacts: Update registrant email address

Transfer delayed

  • No response: Check spam folder for confirmation emails
  • Registrar hold: Contact current registrar to release hold
  • Pending approval: Approve transfer request promptly

Transfer costs and timing

  • Cost: Usually same as 1-year renewal price
  • Extension: Adds 1 year to current expiration
  • Timeline: 5-7 days for most domains
  • Rush options: Not available for standard transfers
Important: Don't let your domain expire during transfer. Renew it at your current registrar if it's close to expiration.
Tip: Keep your website and email working during transfer by maintaining current DNS settings until transfer completes.
