What can you migrate?
Amicatek's Email Migrations tool can migrate from:
- IMAP mailboxes from any hosting provider
- Gmail mailboxes (Google Workspace or personal Gmail)
- Outlook mailboxes (Office 365 or Outlook.com)
Step-by-step migration process
- Create mailboxes at Amicatek first: Set up the email accounts you want to migrate to, using the same passwords as your old mailboxes.
- Log in to the control panel: Go to
https://cp.amicatek.link - Select your package: Choose Manage Hosting and select the package where you want to migrate emails.
- Open Email Migrations: Find the Email Migrations tool in the emails section.
- Enter migration credentials:
- Hostname: The mail server of your previous host (e.g., mail.yourdomain.com, imap.gmail.com)
- Username: The full email address you're migrating from
- Password: The password for the source mailbox
- Select "Sync" to start the migration process.
Important requirements
- Create the destination mailboxes at Amicatek first
- Use the same password for both source and destination mailboxes
- Ensure you have the correct hostname for your previous mail server
Common hostnames by provider
- Gmail: imap.gmail.com
- Outlook/Hotmail: outlook.office365.com
- Yahoo: imap.mail.yahoo.com
- Generic hosting: mail.yourdomain.com or imap.yourdomain.com
If unsure, contact your previous hosting provider for the correct hostname.
Troubleshooting
Migration fails to start
This usually indicates incorrect credentials. Check:
- Password accuracy: Ensure the password is correct for the source mailbox
- Hostname correctness: Verify the mail server hostname with your previous provider
- Username format: Use the full email address, not just the local part
- Account permissions: Ensure IMAP access is enabled on the source account
Partial migration or missing emails
- Large mailboxes: Very large mailboxes may take time to fully migrate
- Folder structure: Some folder hierarchies may need manual adjustment
- Special characters: Folder names with special characters may cause issues
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the email migration tool more than once?
Yes. You can run the migration multiple times for the same mailbox. This is useful after switching MX records to get the latest emails from your previous server. The tool only migrates new emails, so you won't get duplicates.
Does the tool move or copy emails?
It copies emails. Your emails remain on the original server - they are copied to Amicatek, not moved. This means your old mailboxes stay intact.
Can I migrate multiple mailboxes simultaneously?
No. You can only perform one mailbox migration at a time per hosting package. Wait for the current migration to complete before starting the next one.
Where can I find my hostname?
Contact your previous hosting provider for the exact hostname. Common patterns include:
- mail.yourdomain.com
- imap.yourdomain.com
- Provider-specific hostnames (Gmail, Outlook, etc.)
How long does migration take?
Migration time depends on:
- Mailbox size: Larger mailboxes take longer
- Number of emails: More emails = longer migration
- Connection speed: Network speed between servers
- Server load: Peak times may be slower
Best practices
- Test with one mailbox first: Try migrating a small mailbox to ensure settings are correct
- Document your settings: Keep note of working hostnames and settings for future migrations
- Plan your timing: Run migrations during off-peak hours for better performance
- Verify after migration: Check that all important emails and folders transferred correctly
After migration
- Test email functionality: Send and receive test emails
- Update MX records: Point your domain's MX records to Amicatek
- Update email clients: Configure devices and applications with new server settings
- Inform contacts: Let people know about any email changes if needed
